The fields of environmental graphics and wayfinding have blurred the lines between artist, designer, architect and sign maker. Planners of corporate and public spaces may now enlist a variety of professionals to help them create a distinctive space that reflects a certain brand, feel or culture.

Whether it’s a few signs or a complete system, the trend is to integrate signage that is effective, attractive and used sparingly to reduce cost and visual clutter. Beyond signage there are other creative ways to aid navigation. Major art elements, differences in lighting, materials or even changes in furnishings can signal to visitors that they’ve entered a new area or department.
